Project Update!

It's been 2 weeks into Eid, so I've made some snail progress into my official project of redecorating my sister's room. Click here for the last update.

As mentioned in my previous post, I went window shopping at Ikea to search for cheap inspiration.
I managed to get some ideas on how to emulate my sister's dream bedroom with these items.

Lenda curtains for only RM89.

Sheer curtains for only RM43.90.

3 pictures for only RM33!

I've not decided on the frames to put them in yet - but I noticed a few that were still within the affordable range.

We also went looking at potential beds and frames the week before. No pictures to post on this, though.

I called up my interior designer, who we hired to do the minor renovation to our apartment last year. She quoted me the cost for a built-in cabinet. The price is only RM20 more expensive than another outlet we checked out - but I'm willing to pay the extra RM20 as she would oversee the whole project end to end.

I also talked to her about painting the room a light blue and she suggested a colour from Nippon paint  called High Up. I've been trying to search it up online, but they only feature limited colours on their website.

She mentioned it is a lovely light blue-grey colour - which sounds exactly like the colour I am looking for.

So for next weekend, I'm planning to invite her over to see the bedroom and quote her price for painting.

Till next week!

Forgive me for I bought an artificial plant...

Being an avid reader of home decorating blogs and magazines, one of the greatest crimes of decorating is buying an artificial plant. Cringe!

Many decorators talk about how it's so important to have freshly cut blooming flowers in their homes to bring life to any room. But let's get real here, who actually is willing to stop by at the nearest florist and splurge on these expensive beauties every odd week? Yeah, maybe once every few months, or maybe every few years, and only when we're expecting guests.

Plants in the house also bring life to any room. Image taken from Apartment Therapy.

The husband, baby and I went to Ikea last week to get my inspiration in decorating my sister's room (which I've not officially started yet - due to the hectic Eid schedule). My eyes fell upon a pretty artificial plant - yes, you read that right, artificial - and a pretty grey-brown clay pot for it to go into.

I had been planning on getting something green for the house - and the initial notion of getting a nice big green live plant to put next to the sofa has now ceased due to the fact that my son has started crawling and cruising, so I can imagine him sticking his fingers in the soil and scooping some into his mouth.

Therefore, it's artificial plants for me in the mean time. But I must point out one thing - if it's gonna be artificial it better look real, darn it.

I bought two - and now they are both sitting on my dining table. Looks real enough, eh?

Cool Blues or Refreshing Greens?

I've always loved rooms with cool blues and greys...

Imagine coming back from work to a home like this...

Or dropping down on the sofa to read a good magazine in this room:

And going upstairs to retreat in a bedroom like this one...

But now, I think I've fallen in love with refreshing pops of green! They look great with creamy whites and it just creates an ambience of cheerfulness and being outdoors on a lovely day.

Green as accent colours on a creamy/beige sofa look so fresh.

Love the sofa cushions in this room:

Love this room too.

For now, I'm loving cools blues and chalky greys. With bright green accents! I'm wondering whether this scheme will work...
